What Is Vehicle Winterizing & Why Is It Important?

Vehicle winterizing is the process of readying your car to face harsh, chilly months. Winter weather can take a serious toll on your vehicle if you don’t prepare it properly.

Winterizing your vehicle is essential because cold weather can test its limits in unexpected ways. Temperatures drop, ice forms, and roads become slippery—a challenging combination for any car.

Taking the time to prepare your vehicle ensures not only your safety but also the longevity of your car’s key components. You can easily avoid many costly repairs with just a little preparation and vigilance.

Inspect and Test the Battery / Check Your Battery

Cold temperatures significantly reduce battery performance. A battery that functions adequately in summer can struggle to deliver enough power once temperatures drop.

Battery terminals should be clean and free of corrosion, as buildup restricts current flow. Voltage testing ensures the battery can still hold a charge under load.

Vehicle batteries can behave differently in winter. More power is needed to start your engine in the cold, and you also get less power from your battery.
